Wisps Among the Standing Stones
Concert Band / 7:00 / Difficulty - Medium / 2018
The standing stones of England are steeped in legend and lore. They stand as testament to timelessness and antiquity. On a summer’s eve, the will-o-wisps flit between the stones, ethereal and ephemeral. In this work, the music starts in the early evening, slow and ponderous as befitting the ancient stones. Soon, the wisps begin to appear, their random movements evolving into a pattern of light. As the moon rises, the interplay between these elemental figures deepens and grows. With the advent of the dawn, the music ceases and the day begins.
Written in 2018 by Chloe Powell, Wisps among the Standing Stones is an exploration of the themes and motifs of nature.
